Apple’s AirPods 2 is the most popular earphone and many people recognize it’s The Best Wireless Headphone in recent years.
I think the simple design and the convenience are something make people buy it and use Airpods 2 every day.
Even if you don’t have iPhones, you could still connect AirPods to Android smartphones and it’s still fast-connecting. No Big Problem here.
The 2nd generation has three major updates compared to the previous one, such as wireless charging, less latency, and fast connect!
Let’s follow Blablaphones for a closer look. 🙂 🙂 🙂
(The simple and stylish AirPods 2)
AirPods 2 gets wireless charging which I think it’s the biggest difference and something makes people new to earbuds wanna buy it.
The wireless charging allows you to charge your AirPods 2 with ease. You could simply put on some cheap wireless power pads and it would work well.
Although Apple cancels the plan to launch its AirPower Pad earlier this year, we could see AirPower Pad drawings from the outside of AirPods.
It’s funny that Apple doesn’t remove them from the packaging design.
(LED indicator moves to the outside then you could easily know whether your AirPods 2 finishes charging or not.)
I found those cheap replacements of wireless power on the internet, and they will work quite well with your AirPods 2.
- Moretek Charger Stand USD$11
- Mophie Charge Stream Mini USD$24.95
- Belkin Boost Up Qi Wireless Charging Pad USD$26.45
If you hold the first generation of AirPods, you could still purchase the wireless charging case. But, the price is USD$79 which I think it’s too pricey.
I prefer to use the lightning connector to charge my Airpods since I cannot accept the price of a wireless charging case from Apple.
The average charging for Airpods 2 for your reference:
- single charge: Up to 5 hours listening time, up to 3 hours talk time
- 15 minutes in the case equals up to 3 hours listening time, or up to 2 hours talk time.
- wireless charging case after one single charge could offer a 24-hour charging service.
Fast Connect & Less Latency
The original Airpods gets W1 Chip inside while AirPods 2 gets an H1 headphone chip. The H from H1 stands for Headphone I guess.
With H1 chip, AirPods makes the connecting process faster than ever even if you are using an Android smartphone to pair.
Apple says that H1 Headphone Chip improves up to 2x faster when switching between active devices, and a 1.5x faster connection time for phone calls.
For other Apple products such as your Apple Watch, iPad, or Mac, AirPods are ready to connect them in a short time.
(Connecting AirPods 2 to all your Apple devices becomes super easy!)
The set-up process is also as simple as eating snacks, you only need to tap once for the set-up then it will work like MAGIC.
I used to buy many small widgets for entertainments in the past, but I got exhausted every time after I read the long manual to connect them to my laptop or phones.
This time with AirPods, it’s really fast-connecting and I never feel so EASY this way!
Within all the new enhancements that H1 Headphone Chip brings to AirPods 2, I love it could lower 30% latency.
It’s something very important when you are using Airpods 2 to pair for all kinds of games or simply watching a Youtube video on your smart devices. Right?
In AirPods 2, you could say “Hey Siri” as you do on your iPhones or Apple watch. I like this idea that Apple is trying to simplify the process of controlling all your smart devices with Siri.
However, I didn’t use Siri that much because it will lower down the battery life, so I tend to turn off “Hey Siri” on all my Apple devices.
If I turn on “Hey Siri”, I might need to check with Siri quite often for how much left of the battery on AirPods 2.
Top#01 The Price
Besides the battery life on all Apple’s products, the price is always something that people criticize a lot. For AirPods 2, the wireless charging case costs USD$79 which is too pricey for me.
Top#02 No Other Colors to Choose
iPhone 5C and iPhone XR offer at least 5 colors for customers to suit their taste, but AirPods 2 only gets one color which is white.
Not even space gray, gold, or silver color to choose, it’s really a great downside for me since I know the white gets dirty easily.
Top#03 No Waterproof
It’s always easy to drop your AirPods somewhere and you might not be able to find them back due to its size. Let’s imagine what if you drop them in your cup of coffee or tea at breakfast?
Top#04 No Improvements on Sound Quality
The time I saw Apple launched AirPods 2, I did feel like they are going to improve the noise issue and upgrade the sound quality. But, they didn’t.
Noise cancellation and sound quality are the very basic elements when we come to headphones no matter it’s wireless or not.
But rumors have it that Apple is going to improve the both by the end of 2019, let’s wait and see!
If you got the first generation, I suggested you not to change for the 2nd generation since there are not many HUGE updates for AirPods 2 which is The Best Wireless Headphone in recent year.
The major difference is only the wireless charging function is added in this generation. For the quality of sounds, it’s the same no changes or any improvements.
There is also a new option for your AirPods 2. Apple provided the engraving service for the very first time for your purchase with AirPods 2 + Wireless Charging case on their online store.
I guess this is to avoid that you might mess up the cases with your family or friends since it’s getting so popular now. If you could get an engraved case that might help you avoid this situation.
